About Us
While North Bay Monument Company can trace its roots back to 1869, it was Massimo Galeazzi who came to America from the Carrara region of Italy in 1901 to quarry stone from the local basalt quarries.
Massimo (pictured at right) quickly made a name for himself and together with other skilled craftsmen, including Peter Maroni, Natale Forni and Angelo Sodini, were responsible for many historically significant buildings in Sonoma County, including the Stone House on Sonoma Highway that Massimo constructed in 1909 for his family to live in and the Italian immigrants to “board†in while they labored in the local quarries.
Prior to becoming North Bay Monument Company it was known by a variety of names, including Santa Rosa Monument Company.
In 1937 Massimo partnered with Fisher Kinslow, John Costa and E.W.M. Evans to form what is now known as the North Bay Monument Company. In 1957 when Massimo Galeazzi passed away his son John Galeazzi continued North Bay Monument Company.
In 1990 John’s son Gary moved the business from Santa Rosa to Rohnert Park where it is today, and is currently owned and operated by Gary Galeazzi (3rd generation Galeazzi), his wife Carole and their son Kyle Galeazzi who represents the 4th generation Galeazzi to own and operate North Bay Monument Company.
While the early immigrants primarily came from the marble quarries to become blockmakers and stone masons, the next generation primarily focused on marble and granite monuments. The current generation still proudly manufactures stone memorials, but because of the popularity of natural stone surface the focus today is on kitchen counters, vanities and fireplace surrounds. Each generation has focused on the current needs of Sonoma County.
We will look forward to helping you with your needs.
